Steve Haberichter! (Plus, something local for Black Friday.)

All three nights of our New Years celebration this year are going to be unique and exciting and we're pouring some extra mojo into Friday Jan. 1st by bringing back a bevy of former Prowlers.  Every week between now and the end of the year we'll be featuring one of those members and what they've been doing since their tenure with the band.   This week we're featuring... STEVE HABERICHTER - Monster on the mandolin and Down Home Guitar's Guru

This guy.  The power Steve's chop and picking have brought to the stage over his time with us is why we're always quietly looking for a mandolin player.   His smile and humor is infectious (if not slightly mischievous) and he gives wonderful bear hugs.  We thought Black Friday would be the perfect day to talk about Steve because he runs THE best music store in the midwest.

Down Home Guitars is a beautiful store just south of Chicago in Frankfort, IL.  The selection of premium instruments is unparalleled, with great prices and service; all nestled in a beautiful old Trolley station on a small town square.  Down Home has a ton of teachers with a focus on bluegrass and folk music and each year his store is a sponsor of the Frankfort Bluegrass Festival, which Steve is on the board of also. It's one of our favorite local festivals, hands down.

Steve still manages to play music all the time, even with the store to run.   His band, Leadfoot, is a powerhouse of incredible musicians that mix bluegrass and rock with a smidgeon of psychedelic bounce.

On top of all that, you can catch Steve and his fiance Nikki every Tuesday at Barney Callaghan's 9:30-midnight with no cover.

Here's a great video of Steve, Nikki and friends.

We can't wait to get Steve back on stage with us on January 1st at Martyrs'.

BONUS: Check out this footage from 2009 of the Prowlers playing in the woods at Summer Camp Music Festival with Steve raging it on Mandolin.  Legend has it (he told us) that Dan Andree is just outside of the view of the camera seeing the band for the first time.   Listen to Steve's chop!

Next week:  Ben Benedict!
